1. WHAT IS AESTHETIC ENHANCEMENT?

Aesthetic enhancement refers to the group of treatments to improve what we have rather than changing who we are. These treatments are optional and are done to delay the signs of aging, to erase the signs of aging or to improve the aesthetic appearance of the face, limbs and body

2. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE COMMON TREATMENTS FOR AESTHETIC ENHANCEMENTS?

Dr Joyce Lim combines various treatments to achieve a younger and healthy skin, to erase the effects of aging and gravity and to create a natural and youthful look. Among the treatment options are
  • Light and laser photorejuvenation
  • Wrinkle injections and dermal fillers
  • Laser treatments (fractional and non fractional)
  • Skin resurfacing ( laser and chemical peels)
  • Non invasive fat removal (using liposonix or cryolipolysis)
  • Hair biostimulation and laser hair removal
  • Skin tightening (using radiofrequency and infra-red light)
  • Non invasive skin treatments (like microdermabrasion, hydrafacial, chemical peels)
» Facial Enhancement
1. WHAT CAN I DO FOR MY FACIAL WRINKLES?

As we age, static and dynamic wrinkles are seen. These can be erased with wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, skin resurfacing treatments (using Fraxel Laser and chemical peels) and non ablative laser treatments (using Pulsedye V baem Laser, Laser Genesis or the Medlite Laser). You can read more about this in the relevant sections under skin treatments or aesthetic treatments

2. WHAT CAN I DO FOR THE REDNESS AND BROWN SPOTS ON MY FACE?

These are seen as birthmarks or as a result of aging. The redness and brown spots are removed with creams and lasers ( Pulse dye VBeam laser, Medlite laser, Fraxel laser) and light (OPT and BBL photorejuvenation) You can read more about this in the relevant sections under skin treatments or aesthetic treatments

3. WHAT CAN BE DONE FOR MY SAGGING FACE?

As we age, gravity forces and loss of collagen and elastin and bone structure cause the facial skin to sag, resulting in deep folds and laugh lines, jowls, hanging skin along the jawline, hooding of the eyes and eye bags. This can be improved with non invasive skin tightening treatments (Thermage procedure or SkinTyte procedure) combined with dermal fillers, wrinkle injections and skin resurfacing treatments( Fraxel laser or chemical peels), or by thread lifts (where threads with bidirectional cones are placed within the skin to lift and stimulate the skin) You can read more about this in the relevant sections under skin treatments or aesthetic treatments

4. WHAT CAN I DO TO SLIM MY SQUARE JAW?

A square jaw is often due to large masseters (the muscles used for chewing). Botulinum neurotoxin can be injected into the masseters. This reduces the masseter bulk and slim down the lower face, giving it a more oval shape and a less angular jawline.

5. HOW CAN I ACHIEVE A V SHAPE FACE OR A HEART SHAPE FACE?

As we grow older the chin gets shorter and the lower half of the face gets broader. Dr Joyce Lim will discuss with you the treatment options to make the face looks more oval. A combination of dermal fillers and Botulinum neurotoxin treatments are used to create a heart shape face.

6. HOW CAN I HAVE A FULLER AND YOUNGER LOOKING FACE?

As we age we lose collagen, elastic tissue, fat and bone. It results in a sunken face where there are concavities or depressions at the temples, mid cheeks and around the mouth. Contrast this with the youthful curves or convexity we see in a young face. The volume loss can be reversed using dermal fillers. The cheeks can be made fuller, the chin more prominent and the temples filled up using dermal fillers

» Eyes Enhancement
1. WHAT CAN I DO FOR MY DROOPY EYELID?

Droopy eyelids may be due to gravity pulling the eyelids down, loose skin that hangs over the eyebrows and loss of volume. The eyelid skin can be tightened using the Thermage Skin Tightening procedure or the Fraxel Laser resurfacing. Dermal Filler injections or Botulinum neurotoxin can reposition the brow and lift up the eyebrow but this is temporary.

2. HOW CAN I ERASE THE WRINKLE AROUND MY EYES?

There are two types of wrinkles seen around the eyes – the dynamic wrinkles and the static wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles can be erased with Botulinum Neurotoxin Injection while Fraxel Laser Resurfacing and Dermal Filler injections can tighten and smooth out static wrinkles around the eyes. Non ablative lasers like the Pulse Dye VBeam Laser or Laser Genesis or Medlite Laser can improve static wrinkles and multiple sessions are often needed.

3. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO IMPROVE THE LOOSE SKIN AROUND MY EYES?

As a result of aging or sun damage, the skin loses its collagen and elastic tissues. The loose skin can result in loose folds or wrinkles around the eyes and causes droopy eyelids or eyebags. Non surgical procedures like Thermage skin tightening and Fraxel Laser Resurfacing can improve loose skin around the eyes. However if severe, surgical intervention is preferred

4. WHAT ARE THE NONSURGICAL TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR MY EYE BAGS?

Eye bags are due to descent of the fat pads and loose skin below the eye. Dermal filler injections can improve the groove below the eye bags and make the eye bags less obvious. The loose skin can be made smooth and tighter by using skin tightening procedures like Thermage or Skintyte or Fraxel laser resurfacing. Severe eye bags are best treated with surgery.

Some young people have very strong muscles below the eyes that look like eye bags. These are NOT eye bags. Botulinum neurotoxin injection can reduce these “eye bags” and widen the eyes. Many people are ecstatic to see the disappearance of “eye bags” and have their eyes look bigger and wider too.

5. CAN MY DARK EYE RINGS GO AWAY?

Dark eye rings are due to a combination of factors. Among them are congestion of vessels below the skin, pigmentation in the skin, post eczema, hollowness due to aging and a genetic predisposition. As you grow older the eye socket gets larger and the lower eyelid skin sags and this accentuates the dark rings. In Asians dark eye rings may be genetic appearing at an earlier age and they get darker with age

Treatment depends on the various causes and includes prescription creams and laser treatments (Medlite Laser or Fraxel Laser) or light treatment (OPT or BBL photorejuvenation). Sometimes dermal fillers can improve the sunken eyelids and as light reflects from the skin the dark eye rings appear lighter

6. WHAT IS THE TEAR TROUGH?

Tear trough is the line that runs from the corner of eye to the cheek. This makes the eyes look tired and accentuates eye bag. Dermal fillers are injected to fill up the trough and create a smooth contour that runs from below the eye to the cheek.

7. WHAT CAUSES MY SUNKEN OR HOLLOW EYES?

As we age the bony eye socket get larger and the eyes appear sunken and hollow. This can be improved with dermal fillers

8. WHAT ARE THE TREATMENT OPTION FOR EYE BROW SHAPING?

Botulinum neurotoxin injections can reshape the brow to create more of an arch or more of an elevation or to raise the whole brow evenly.

The injections can elevate a brow that has begun to droop and the injections can equalize the position of asymmetrical brows
» Nose Enhancement
Botulinum neurotoxin and dermal fillers are often used in combination to improve the shape of the nose. Most Asians desire a higher nose bridge and this can be achieved by surgical nose implant or temporary by injecting dermal fillers. Bumps or humps or scars on the nose bridge can also be made less obvious by injecting dermal fillers.

As we age the nose tip points downwards and this can be corrected by Botulinum neurotoxin injection and dermal fillers
» Lip Enhancement
1. WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF AGING SEEN ON THE LIPS?

As we age the lips loses its volume and shape and become thinner and loses the outline and cupids bow. The corners of the lip turn downwards. These signs of aging can be corrected using a combination of dermal fillers and botulinum neurotoxin injections

2. WHAT CAN I DO TO SOFTEN SMOKER'S LINE?

Vertical lines around the mouth appear as we age and they are common among smokers. These lines can be softened with Botulinum neurotoxin injections. To get a better result the injections are often combined with dermal filler injections and skin resurfacing procedures like Fraxel laser treatments or chemical peels. Dr Joyce Lim will be able to recommend the best combination treatments for you

3. HOW CAN I ACHIEVE BEAUTIFUL NATURALLY LOOKING LIPS?

Dermal fillers and neuromodulators are often used to form a fuller, more defined, and youthful version of your lips.
  • The lip border (or vermillion border) can be better defined without adding volume to the lip
  • The lip volume decrease with age and this can be filled up
  • The body of the lips can be enhanced to create small tubercle or a pout
  • The downward corners of the mouth can be uplifted
  • The cupid’s bow (V shaped) and philtrium can be enhanced
» Neck Rejuvenation
1. WHAT CAN BE DONE FOR THE WRINKLES AND SUN DAMAGE ON THE NECK?

As we age, changes are seen in the skin of the neck. Wrinkles, vertical bands and rough skin and discolouration(red and brown spots) are seen. The signs of aging can be erased with light (OPT or BBLphotorejuvenation) or laser treatments (Fraxel Laser, Pulse Dye V Beam Laser , Laser Genesis, Medlite Laser).

The vertical bands can be soften with Botulinum neurotoxin injections.

2. WHAT CAN I DO FOR THE LOOSE SAGGING SKIN UNDER MY CHIN?

The sagging skin is due to gravity forces and loss of skin collagen and elastic tissues. The skin can be tightened with skin tightening procedures (Thermage or SkinTyte treatment) or skin resurfacing procedures (Fraxel Laser or Laser Genesis), or by thread lifts (where threads with bidirectional cones are placed within the skin to lift and stimulate the skin). If the sagging skin is too excessive, a surgical neck lift may be needed

3. WHY DO I HAVE HORIZONTAL NECK LINES?

These lines are often seen in young individuals and there is a genetic predisposition. They can be improved by dermal filler injections or skin resurfacing (Fraxel laxer)
» Decolletage Enhancement
Signs of aging and sun damage are often seen on the décolletage (the area from the neck to the waist). The red and brown discolouration and fine wrinkles are erased with light treatments (OPT or BBL Photorejuvenation) or skin resurfacing procedures (Faxel Laser or Laser Genesis)

Any skin sagging on the chest can be improved with skin tightening treatments (Thermage or SkinTyte)
» Hand Rejuvenation
1. HOW ARE YOUTHFUL CONTOURS RESTORED TO THE HANDS?

As we age we lose the youthful contours on the back of our hands due to the loss of skin tissues. We see thin skin with depressions running along the tendons and prominent veins and brown spots or age spots. The volume loss can be improved with dermal filler injections. The loose skin and discolouration can be improved with skin resurfacing treatments (Fraxel Laser and Chemical Peels)

2. WHAT ARE THE BROWN SPOTS SEEN ON THE HANDS?

The brown spots are lentigines or liver spots and they look like large freckles. These spots are hereditary in nature and they also occur with age and with sun exposure. They are found in groups on the back of the hands and often on the arms. They are not skin cancers, nor do they lead to cancer. However, on skin exposed to the sun, they may be accompanied by pre-cancerous scaly, red elevations of the skin called actinic keratoses. Sometimes dark spots, which look like liver spots, may actually become cancerous. If you have any blemishes, you should see Dr Joyce Lim for a dermatologic evaluation

3. HOW CAN I TREAT THESE BROWN SPOTS OR LIVER SPOTS?

These brown spots can be erased with skin resurfacing treatments (Fraxel laser or chemical peels) or cryosurgery. You can try to prevent new ones by limiting your exposure to the sun and wearing a sunscreen.
