Skin Resurfacing

1. WHAT IS SKIN RESURFACING?

Skin resurfacing as the name suggest is a treatment to erase skin imperfections, smooth skin irregularities and tighten skin. Skin resurfacing is a controlled injury to your skin. When your skin heals, the “imperfect “skin is replaced with a better skin.

2. WHAT ARE THE SKIN RESURFACING TREATMENTS AVAILABLE?

There are several modalities that Dr Joyce Lim uses to resurface the skin. Among the skin resurfacing treatments are the Chemical peels, the Fraxel lasers, the vascular laser (V beam perfecta), the Genesis laser and infrared light (STAR and skintyte treatments) and radiofrequency. The choice of treatments will depend on the skin problems and the depth of the skin irregularities. The amount of time you can allow for recovery is another factor in the choice of treatment. A more superficial treatment will require less healing time, but you may need to have many sessions to achieve the same result as a deeper treatment. You can read more about these individual treatments in the Aesthetic section. Dr Joyce Lim will discuss with you your concern and tailor the best treatments for your skin condition.

3. WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER SKIN RESURFACING TREATMENTS?

After the treatment, you may see the following
  • Skin growths are removed including actinic keratosis (pre-skin cancer spots)
  • Superficial lines and wrinkles, eye wrinkles and wrinkles around the mouth will improve.
  • Sun-damaged skin will improve.
  • Brown spots, melasma and skin pigmentation will improve.
  • Acne and chicken pox scars and superficial scars from injury will improve.
  • Red blotchiness and superficial veins will improve.
  • Skin laxity in lower eyelids and skin tone will improve.
The degree of improvement depends on the treatment used, the number of sessions and the skin problems

4. WHAT ARE THE SIDE-EFFECTS OF SKIN RESURFACING TREATMENT?

Skin resurfacing treatments are generally safe. If you are prone to skin disorders, including allergic reactions or herpes (cold sores), skin resurfacing can cause eruptions of these conditions. You may need to take antivirals before the treatment. After the treatment, whiteheads may develop and these usually disappear within a few weeks. Some patients may develop skin pigmentation and Dr joyce Lim will discuss with you how to prevent or reduce this risk.

Following all skin resurfacing treatments, it is important that you avoid direct or indirect exposure to the sun until all the redness or pinkness of your skin has subsided. You can minimize side-effects by following the instructions of Dr Joyce Lim
